yesterday we went caving through an ice cave in aokigahara (also know as the "suicide forest" for it’s alarming amount of suicide death rates). Qe spoke to the tour guide about his experiences working and growing up around aokigahara and what his thoughts where on the reputation the forest had earn itself. He wanted to make sure that we saw the beauty in the forest and not the suicides connected with it, and that is exactly what we saw.
leafs filled ground of winding tree roots, littered with stones created by lava, it was hard to feel anything but tranquility in such a unique landscape. it was easy to see why this is a place people would want to come to spend their final hours.
after caving, on our way out, he pointed at a bike that was left (more than likely) by someone who had chosen this beautiful landscape to end their life on this earth, he said the bike had been there for more than 3 years, slowly being engulfed by the vegetation surrounding it.
